RCE Vienna: Pioneer’s Pathfinder

SDGs Aligned:

Background

The Pioneer’s Pathfinder tool was developed by the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development Vienna (RCE Vienna). The project itself was developed through their Sustainability Challenge, an initiative which aims to empower change makers by creating transdisciplinary learning environments. The Pioneer’s Pathfinder tool was also co-created with RCE Buea and RCE Lesotho as well.

Incorporation Breakdown

RCE Vienna is all about empowering change makers to when it comes to projects aimed at creating sustainable societies. They believe in transdisciplinary research, transformative education relating to sustainable development, and socio-ecological transformations. Guided by these beliefs, RCE Vienna was able to develop an online tool called Pioneer’s Pathfinder that helps organizations and individuals looking to kick-start their own projects. This tool uses AI to provide clarity, tools, and resources that are specific and relevant to your unique project. By using this tool, you are able to explore different ideas, refine project plans, and creates clear paths to implementing your projects.

When using this website, you are able to choose whether you are searching for different tools to aide you within a project, or you are wanting some assistance with a project start-up. It will also ask how much time you have to explore your idea or project, which will determine the number of questions it asks, how in depth it will go with those questions, and what sort of results it will provide; this can range from a few tool suggestions all the way to step by step guides on kickstarting your project. The website will ask you some standard questions about your project, the target demographic, anticipated learning objectives, and what sort of focus areas and sustainability topics your project will address. Now, this tool doesn’t exclusively cater to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), however this is an sustainability topic you can include within your exploration. Based on your answers, it will then use AI to help guide it in what sort of questions it will ask to better understand your project. After a few series of this back and forth questioning, it will then provide some resources, suggestions, and plans on how you can get started on your project or enhance an ongoing project.

How can this example be repurposed?

This example can be an excellent way to garner different ideas in which you could include SDGs within your programming and projects. It allows you to explore different SDG related tools that can compliment the work you are already doing. It can also help to provide some guidance on how you can embed the SDGs into your project right from the start. Another great thing about this tool, is that it allows you to explore these different ideas without having to commit to any of them. It can provide some insights into how to the project could look, while potentially sparking some ideas on how to change it for the better.

But remember, this tool utilizes AI when analyzing your responses, generating project relevant questions, and providing tools, resources, and strategies. As such, you should always be aware of what information you are providing, and ensure you are not providing private information or confidential materials. Always follow your organizations AI policies, and if you are unsure of what tools you can use or how to use them safely, speak with your leadership team, executive team, or board of directors before trying out this tool.
