The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) were adopted in 2015 and are being addressed by countries all across the world. They are a call to action to address and work towards reducing social, economical, and environmental issues experienced by communities all across the globe. A lot of the issues highlighted by the 17 SDGs are experienced here in Canada on a national, provincial, and regional scale.

The non-profit sector, in fact, are one of the driving forces towards providing support to individuals facing hardships within our own communities, and there’s been a recent push to try and incorporate the SDGs into the initiatives, programs, and missions of the organizations within this sector. After all, these organizations are already working towards a multitude of these goals, so why not associate your initiatives with the goals?

Unfortunately, charities, foundations, and non-profit organizations may not know where to start with this integration and how to measure the results in a meaningful way. In addition to this, organizations may not have the capacity to do the necessary research for integration.

That’s where the Initiative Insights: SDG Navigator comes in. This online tool is designed to assist non-profits with identifying the goals that align with their initiatives. There are a multitude of surveys that an organization can take to understand which goals their initiatives target. There is also an assortment of easy and relevant examples on how to incorporate these alignments, as well as additional resources where non-profits can learn more about the presence the non-profit sector has working towards the UN SDGs.

Let’s Get Started…

What are SDGs?

The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created in 2015 by the United Nations Member States. These goals were created to address the wide range of challenges experienced across the globe; they promote sustainability and a more equitable future for everyone. The goals were created as a guide for governments, corporations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions with their efforts in making the world a better place to live by 2030.

Below you can find a quick glance at what each goal is, and you can visit the UN SDG website if you would like to dive deeper into the goals, their targets, and their indicators.
